How To Set Up Your Cigar Humidor

Now that you got your humidor lets not get all crazy and just throw our cigars inside without setting it up. Many people think its just a storage box. Well if that's what you think you'd be better off saving your money and putting your cigars in an old shoe box. A humidor is used to "properly" store your cigars by controlling humidity and adding to the aging process with cedar wood inside. When you get your humidor follow the following steps and were sure you will find that they are very EZ and your cigars will be properly stored.

  You'll Need

Salt
Plastic Ziplock bag or Tupperware container
Small Cap (one that fits inside the bag)
Couple drops of water

Directions: Take a teaspoon of salt put it in an open container. (I use the top to a Gatorade bottle) Put a couple drops of water on the salt, enough to make it damp don't make a puddle, make it so its like wet sand. Place your hygrometer in the bag along with the small container. (Don't spill it) Seal the bag with some air in there. Check it in about 6-8 hours see if it has stabilized. Once it has stabilized take your hygrometer out of the bag. It should read somewhere around 75%. If it does not, get a small screwdriver and on the back of the hygrometer you will see a small screw. Turn the screw until the meter reads 75%.

  You'll Need

Distilled water
Humidification Solution (if you choose)

Directions: Put distilled water in a dish. Put enough to cover the humidifier about 1/2 way up. If you choose to use a humidification solution, fill dish up with solution. Soak for about a minute, then remove from water and shake off excess water and dry casing so it doesn't' drip on the cigars. Now your ready to install it in the humidor. Recharge every 3-6 months depending on your use.
  You'll Need:

Distilled Water

Directions: Wipe down the entire inside of the humidor with distilled water. Let it dry for a couple hours and repeat the process This process will re-humidify the wood so your cigars will stay fresh. If the humidity drops after a couple of days, wipe down the inside again. This does not mean there is a problem it could just be that that the wood was extremely dry. Do not put the cigars on when the wood has just been wiped down, let it dry for a little while.
